Towns and Cities of Central and Eastern Europe
Central European towns and cities are famous for their fascinating architecture comprising all styles from Gothic to Renaissance, from Baroque to the Classicism and from Art Nouveau to Post Modernism. They are historic backdrops for modern cultural events, leisurely shopping sprees, wonderful dining experiences and for relaxed hours of enjoyment.

Bad Schandau (D) is situated in the heart of the romantic Saxon Switzerland. The prefix "Bad" was added in the 19th century to designate the spa status of the town.

Beroun (CZ) has impressive old town gates and fragments of 14th century walls, but primarily, it is mainly a good starting point for trips to the Karlstejn Castle and the Koneprusy Caves.

Breclav (CZ) is an industrial town on the Dyje River. Through this town with a medieval castle used to run an important road to Austria. It is proud of its Renaissance chateau which was rebuilt after 1560 from a Gothic castle. It stands on the site of an original Slavic stronghold.

Ceske Budejovice (CZ) also known as Budweis, is a hometown to the world famous lager Budweiser Budvar with a wonderful town square and a former Dominican Monastery. It is the South Bohemian administrative capital and the largest town in the region.

Cesky Krumlov (CZ) is one of the most beautiful cities in Bohemia with a well-preserved historical centre that was enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992.

Decin (CZ) is a port on the Elbe River and is mainly a starting point for visiting the Sandstone Rocks. The main historical attraction of this town is a large castle founded in the final years of the Premyslid Royal Dynasty.

Domazlice(CZ) in 13th century Bohemian sovereign Premysl Otakar II made it a fortified town, with a layout that has survived to the present. Its wonderful old centre is decorated with highly advanced Baroque architecture style.

Dresden (D) has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Kings of Saxony. “Florence of the North”, “Southern city in the North” and the “Baroque metropolis” – these are just few of the many nicknames that Dresden has merited.

Frantiskovy Lazne (CZ) is a small, intimate spa town, which has preserved its turn-of-the-century atmosphere and is one of the most picturesque Czech spas. The relaxing ambience is enhanced thanks to the surrounding landscape.

Gmünd (AUT) is an old border town founded in the end of 12th century. Town hall, sgraffitto houses and lovely square make Gmünd popular tourist destination.

Hodonin (CZ) the first written note dates from 1073. It´s noteworthy, that this town is the birthplace of the first Czech president Tomas Garrigue Masaryk.

Cham (D) monks from Regensburg founded the Marienmünster, the first and oldest church in the Bavarian forest in the 8th century. The first reference to Cham as a city appears in 976. Despite lots of damage suffered in 15th and 18th century many interesting historical buildings remained till today.

Jaroslavice (CZ) a village with a viniculture tradition going back to the 12th century. There is an old-style wine cellar on the property of the chateau, where not long ago wine was processed from grapes from the best surrounding vineyards. There are also the oldest wine archives in the Czech Republic (wine since 1945).

Jindrichuv Hradec (CZ) a magnificent palace with Renaissance arcades, a unique music pavilion and a Medieval “black kitchen” . City is blessed with a glourious medieval past and, structurally at least, untouched by modern conflicts.

Karlovy Vary (CZ) also known as Carlsbad is the most important Czech spa with a 600-year-old tradition. This fashionable health resort is also attractive due to its historic architecture, beautiful colonnades and sanatoria.

Klatovy (CZ) is considered the west Bohemian ´gateway´ to the Sumava Mountains. It is a small, attractive Renaissance and Baroque city that deserves few hours of your time!

Kvilda (CZ) a mountain settlement founded at the confluence of the Cerny („Black“) brook and the Jezerni brook, at the altitude of 1.602 m above the sea level. In the 19th century the local glass painting works became famous for its special technique of painting on the inner side of glass. The highest situated village in the Czech Republic.

Laa an der Thaya (AUT) sometimes called the „Gateway to Moravia“, is a charming town that was first mentioned in a document in 1150. It is here where history comes alive, however, the aspiring spa town also boasts the comforts of modern times.

Lenora (CZ) a village at the confluence of the Rasnice and the Vltava, 765 m above the sea level. The local glass works had been one of the three remaining glass workshops in Sumava to preserve the old tradition, making „off-hand“ blown glass before it was burnt down in the 19th century.

Marianske Lazne (CZ) is a famous spa resort that evokes the feeling of one great park. Elegant spa houses and colonnades arching above curative springs are enclosed in greenery. Woods surround the town, very close to the center.

Melnik (CZ) is located on a prominent hill above the confluence of the Vltava and the Elbe Rivers. It is a centre of a small Bohemian wine-growing region dating back to the 9th century.

Mikulov (CZ) is a picturesque but underrated city. Its castle is located on a hill in the flat wine-growing region of Palava, the UNESCO biospheric reservation.

Nittenau (D) is an old town with more than one thousand year long tradition. Among its places of interest are remain of medieval fortification and ruin of oldest castle chapels in Bavaria.

Regensburg (D) calls itself as the "Germany's best-preserved medieval city" and it's hard to argue with that description. This unique city with more than 2,500 years of history is nowadays under the UNESCO protection.

Retz (D) is an urban historical reservation with a series of valuable houses. The Renaissance town hall, traditional pillory and a 20 km long wine cellar labyrinth belong among the biggest jewels of this town.

Roding (D) is with its foundation in the year 844 not only the oldest "Landstadt" of the Upper Palatinate, but also presents itself at the moment as an up-coming, modern and innovative town.

Roudnice nad Labem (CZ) the castle is located on a high rock above the Elbe River. The castle has been at that location since the 12th century. Remains of this Roman castle have been preserved in the cellars and on the ground floor of the castle. Today, the castle is a base of a garrison administration and of a military music school.

Slavonice (CZ) this border town is centred on a main square with a unique collection of 16th century Renaisance houses, some with rich sgraffito decorations and vaulted ceilings.

Straznice (CZ) a town and centre of the viniculture district, noted already in 1086. In the 16th century Straznice was the second largest city after Prague. Urban memorial zone – Renaissance gates from the 16th century, Neo-Renaissance chateau, etc.

Tabor (CZ) is a former Husite stronghold, which withstood onslaughts by Catholic Europe for 17 years. It sits on a hill above the Luznice River and the Jordan Lake. The old city center has retained many Gothic and Renaissance houses.

Telc (CZ) origins date back to the 13th century but it got its current look after a huge fire in 1530. Architectural unity of the Renaissance style present here convinced to the UNESCO to add the little town to its list.

Trebic (CZ) is a district town and it is situated on both banks of the Jihlava River. The Jewish Quarter, the old Jewish cemetery and the Basilica of St Procopius are reminders of the co-existence of the Jewish and Christian cultures from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. (UNESCO)

Vimperk (CZ) first records of the castle are from 1263. The town was among the first ones in the Czech lands to have a printing shop. Vimperk gained fame for its glass indurstry. First glass works date back to the 14th century. Vimperk is a suitable starting point for exploring the Sumava Mountains.

Znojmo (CZ) is a big and busy town, but it maintains a pleasant old centre with an unusually large number of religious buildings. Highlights are the frescoes located in the walls of the St. Catherine Rotunda and the Town Hall Tower.
