Wine
From the point of view of geographical location, some of the vineyard areas in Central Europe are located at the same latitudes as Newfoundland. Despite this fact, there is a favorable climate allowing creation of the northernmost located vineyards in the whole world. The history of vineyards in Central Europe goes back all the way to the first century AD when the Roman soldiers entered this region for the first time.
Set up of larger vineyards and their expansion into more northern areas was happening hand in hand with the process of Christianization. The tradition and culture of winemaking has a really strong, long and rich history in this region. Each sub-region produces specific and unmistakable types of wine. Wine gave also the opportunity for a creation of unique wine streets and cellars, as well as fall wine celebrations, which are a unique probe into the local customs and traditions, which should not be forgotten. While biking, you will have a chance to visit the most famous wine regions of the Czech Republic such as Znojmo, Palava, Mutenice, Litomerice, Melnik. There are also wine regions in Austria and Germany. It ´s worth remembering Weinviertel (“the wine district”) in Austria and Sachsen in Germany.
The same way, there are many varieties of wine itself, there are many ways to enjoy the wine in restaurants, visiting wine producers and many other attractions make it possible to find your own way to wine. Certainly, the best way to wine is, and will be, going down several steps to a cellar, where it is possible to get to know and experience precious moments of culinary wine pleasure.
